Is 60 the new 30 in Hollywood?

The fountain of youth remains elusive but today’s stars seem to have it on speed dial!  They are proving that the secret to looking 30 at 60 isnt just about good genes but about good habits, good mindsets, good treatments and probably an avocado or two.  🙂

Why do so many celebrities look so good at 60?

More tips below, but here is why celebs may just simply look so good:

1. Hair care – Our hair stylist professionals are amazing these days!  They have wonderful techniques that can assist with not only hair coloring but also extensions and restorations, all of which help to frame our face in a youthful fashion.

2. Makeup – We’ve come a long way baby! From the days of makeup simply being a combination of pancake foundations and bold, unnatural finishes, makeup can now enhance natural beauty while blurring impections.  Makeups have even begun to incorporate skincare ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, peptides and even antioxidants.  Makeup techniques now include “glass skin”, well-matched tones and soft contouring to better showcase our natural beauty.

3. Technology helps – Beyond treatment advances (more below), we now have things fit for sci-fi movies like AI-powered skincare analysis (these help professionals create ultra personalized treatment plans for clients) and even 3D-printing to create one-off products specifically and perfectly suited for a client’s skin!  Augmented reality has also allowed us to try before we buy, allowing people to experiment with makeup and hair colors virtually!

What are new age stars doing?

Here is what they are doing:

1. New treatments: we have laser resurfacing, radiofrequency microneedling, NAD+ boosters, advanced plastic surgery, LED light therapy, injectables like botox and fillers and even smart skincare devices that deliver microcurrents to the skin.

2. New research: a focus on ingredients that stimulate collagen production, replace lost volume and smooth out wrinkles such as retinoids, vitamin C, peptides and hyaluronic acid play crucial roles

3. You are what you eat: celebs get it! They are routinely working with their nutritionists and trainers to not only focus on exercise but also sticking with diets that reduce inflammation and, when applicable, practice intermittent fasting to boost metabolism and cellular repair.

4. Mind over matter: mental health and wellness is important. Celebs are openly promoting techniques that can aid in protecting your inner well-being, whether it is meditation, yoga, therapy or simply protecting your inner self for the outer world.  Scientifically, these activities will manage cortisol levels and slow down the aging process.

5. Exercise: If you dont use it then you will lose it.  With time, your body rations and adapts to your activity level.  If you engage in pilates and yoga, your body will realize that flexibility, core strength and posture are important and work to maintain them.  If you engage in high-intensity interval training (HIIT), your body will strengthen your cardiovascular health and burn fat efficiently.  And if you do some degree of weight training, your body will preserve your muscle mass and bone density providing your skin with the optimal scaffolding to build on.

6. Dental care – Lets not overlook the tremendous advancements in dental health and cosmetic dentistry (e.g. teeth whitening, veneers, etc.).  The field of dentistry is not only doing amazing work but also continuing to make these advancements more accessible to all of us.

7. Old but still gold: Sun protection and sleep optimization remain as important as ever before

Why does this new generation look younger at 60 than stars did decades ago? For example the cast of the Golden Girls (who were in their 50s at the time) looked much different than celebrities do now.

I believe our definition of aging gracefully has evolved.  With the Golden Girls, their iconic beauty was defined by how they effortlessly projected vibrancy, health and confidence.  At the time, they redefined the definition of what it meant to grow older and elements of their example still resonate today.  Moving ahead, aging gracefully has now incorporated lifestyle choices and proactive skin care plans that makes our society no longer simply accept aging as the passage of time.  This is truly a result of an unprecedented fusion of science, wellness, technology and cultural and mental shifts in beauty.  We now understand that great skincare isnt just about the occasional facial or the latest product but more about a holistic lifestyle that supports skin health every day.  Understand the importance of sleep, eating right, staying hydrated, mental wellness, sun protection, and sticking with a skincare regimen as sustained habits and choices are truly demonstrating the potential for continuous untapped potential.
